Nutrition Matters

Terryn Choat - Older Adult Specialist Dietitian. Older People deserve more than checklists and supplements- they deserve the chance to flourish

Why I Do What I Do

Why I Do What I Do

I started in aged care over 10 years ago and never left.

Because older people deserve more than checklists and supplements. They deserve dignity, care, and the chance to flourish through good food and meaningful support.

In my work, I see every day how the right nutrition can turn things around: improved energy, faster recovery, better mood, greater independence.

Dietitians in aged care aren’t just here to prescribe supplements or tick the 2-yearly menu review box — we’re here to create a food culture that truly nourishes body, mind, and spirit.

Dietitians in aged care are about advocating for residents, working alongside staff, reducing malnutrition risk, enhancing quality of life, and making good nutrition easy, practical, and sustainable every day.

💡 Did you know? In New Zealand, approximately 50% of aged care residents are malnourished or at risk of malnutrition.

Older people are worth the investment in skilled nutrition care. Always.
